Morgan Street’s Colorful World of Beer

Morgan Street's ColorfulWorld of Beers.

  • Altbier – “Alt” means “old,” and “bier” means “beer,” so naturally Altbier means “old beer.” This in no way implies that it is spoiled or old, but distinctly means giving credit to the ways of old for brewing this beer. Altbier has a formidable malty aroma that is balanced by its hop aroma. The appearance is brownish with an off-white head. The flavor is fairly bitter yet balanced, and has a decent amount of malt character. This is our homage to brewing in the ways of “alt,” so raise a glass in salute to our brewing forefathers.
Malt: Europils, Munich, Cara 8, Cara 20, Chocolate
    Hops: Hallertau Mittelfruh

  • Black Bear- This light flavored black lager is our version of a classic schwarzbier. This schwarzbier has moderate malt flavors that finish clean and sweet, and are balanced out nicely with just a hint of bitterness. The appearance is very dark brown, with a tan-colored head. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium to medium-high carbonation. Black Bear is truly a beer that will surprise the drinker. It is overall dark, but very pleasantly sweet with no harshness that most would expect from a dark beer. This beer is available seasonally, so try it when you can.

  • Brown Bear- This brown lager is an aggressively hopped version of an American brown. Brown Bear has a roasty almost brownie like taste, although some might pick up some traces of nuts, figs, toffee, or coffee. As for appearance, the beer has an off brown head that lingers slightly and laces nicely. There is a note of bitterness from the hop additions, but they will be balanced out on your tongue by the maltyness. The mouthfeel is full bodied with medium carbonation. Brown Bear is a unique beer, and well worth a try. Overall it is a true American brown to its core with some Tasty hops to round it out. This beer is available seasonally, so try it when you can.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied, and Decades has a medium level of carbonation. There is an unmistakable grassiness to this IPL which stems from dry hopping with whole leaf Cascade hops in the serving tank. Even though we have been established for 15 plus years now, Decades still has a place in our hearts and definitely on the beer menu. Join us in lifting a glass to our future success.

  • Edwin Budding Cream Lager – In the summer, it is widely accepted to drink what has been labeled a “lawn mower” beer. These beers are typically lighter in nature, and quite refreshing on a hot summer’s day. Well, our Edwin Budding Lager (EBL) is our “lawn mower” beer. Edwin Budding, who hailed from Gloucestershire, England, is the man credited with inventing the lawnmower in 1830. What better way to honor the man who has helped us for nearly 200 years keeping our lawns nice and trim, than to name a beer after him. Made only with the four main ingredients; Malt, Water, Barley, and Yeast. This Premium Styled American Lager has little malt and hop aroma present. The color is straw yellow with a white frothy head, and very clear. EBL is very crisp and dry in flavor, and overall very refreshing. Look for EBL during the summer months to quench your thirst.

  • Irish Stout – Our version of a classic Irish-Style Dry Stout, but we do it with a unique twist. We use lager yeast and steam ferment this beer. The lager yeast gives our stout a creamy, almost milk stout, quality. There is a distinct dry roasted bitterness, and some would assume that we use coffee in our stout. Its appearance is black, with a brown head. This beer is remarkably smooth and very sessionable. If you like Guinness then give this a try. Irish Stouts availability is off and on throughout the year, but you can bet it will be on tap around St. Patrick’s Day.

  • Lactovision – Being a lager house we decided to put our own spin on a classic Belgian-style Dark Strong Ale. On top of that, the mash was soured with a little help from our friend lactobacillus. From there 6 lbs of freeze dried tart cherries were added to the whirlpool at the end of the boil. The yeast is a blend of 80% German Lager yeast and 20% Trappist yeast. The initial flavor is undoubtedly tart but finishes quite smooth and nutty. The color is dark red, and the aroma is sweet with hints of oatmeal. The head is tan and laces beautifully. Enjoy this one-off, it won’t be around long.
